ARTIST STATEMENT

In my artistic practice, I explore the abstract interplay between perception and imagination, probing the themes of connection that resonate through nature, cultural landscapes, and personal identity. My work is a study of form and space, the dynamic interplay of positive and negative spaces, organic shapes and geometric structures, to convey a way of looking at life. Each piece, whether a sculpture or a painting, embarks on an evolutionary path through memory and imagination, culminating in a distinctive final version through an ongoing, responsive dialogue with the work.

My paintings are a layered journey of mark-making, where initial sketches and images serve as the foundation and layers of color and forms find cohesion within a tapestry of thoughts and associations. The 'Cultural Landscapes' series is an intimate exploration of place and identity through the lens of my immigrant experience, examining the creative and connective forces manifest in architectural forms and the urban environment. This body of work contemplates the transformative role of the city as nexus of human endeavor, hub of innovation and creativity, and its capacity to shape our collective experience.

My sculptural work is driven by my interest in assembling elements to build new forms, and the challenge of pushing the boundaries of materials to their expressive limits. These works are not only complete in themselves but also act as precursors of larger projects and public installations. The 'Hope' series is a tribute to the resilience and contributions of immigrants, recognizing the intricate stories woven by migration, influenced by conflict, environmental change, and natural disasters. 'Hope' stands as a poignant reminder of the ongoing refugee crisis and a call for empathy and humane treatment of the displaced.

Through my art, I seek to decode the world around us, striving for a deeper understanding of our shared human experience, and inviting a reimagining of ourselves, our communities, and our collective future.
